Today was my first attempt at going fully vegan, and I have to say that it did not get off to a good start. When I got to work, I realised that my choices in drinkable coffee from our machine were quite limited.
The coffee machine at work produces some of the worst coffee I have ever tasted, however in the past, I managed to hide the taste by having milk and sugar, which made the broth just bearable to drink. Unfortunately, as my milk option was now no longer available to me, I had to settle with just plain old black coffee… Big mistake.
I was presented with a bubbling evil smelling liquid, which I could barely stand to look at, let alone drink. I did attempt a few sips, but it was so foul that I doubt any living creature could have finished a cup. I promptly poured it down the drain.
note to self: Bring in soy milk to work…
By the end of the day I was in fairly good spirits, until something tragic and unexpected shook me out of my afternoon daydreaming…….
After a week and a half of joy, my quiet walk to the train station was once again rudely interrupted by one of the crazy street preachers. I don’t know where they’ve been hiding, perhaps the winter has deterred from spending hours standing outside the station, but the one week respite from them was abruptly halted as I crossed the tram tracks and saw one of them up to their usual tricks.
Many dismiss these people as weirdo’s, and I do admit, these people must have a few screws loose, (who else would be willing to stand in the cold for hours while screaming), but they still irritate me to no end. Their simple presence doesn’t bother me so much, there are so many ‘weirdos’ wandering around Amsterdam that they just become part of the scenery. What DOES bother me though is the fact that my thoughts are always rudely interrupted when I pass, and that I am forced to listen to a string of bull****.
Unfortunately there is no current means for us to stop these street preachers, (other than ‘accidentally’ pushing them into the canal), so nearly every trip home from work is made worse by these people. Why do so many religious nutters insist on pushing their values onto others?
Moving on….
Some of the most ridiculous strawman arguments presented by theists arise when discussing the origins of the universe and/or life. Because we have not yet figured out exactly what happened, theists choose to use this as a flaw in an atheists argument. One of the common phrases that I hear is:
‘Well, it had to come from somewhere, someone had to make it all’…
Just because we do not know the answer yet does not mean that ‘God ‘ did it. Can you imagine if we said that for every little mystery or question throughout history? If we had, we would still be living in conditions such as that of the Dark Ages. Lucky for the human race that there were some people willing to question these mysteries and investigate them enough to allow us to achieve what we have today.
If we don’t question we will never know….
It is the process of questioning and investigation that has allowed us to develop the technology that we use in every day life. It is the Atheists of this world who have developed the cures and/or treatments for otherwise deadly diseases, and who have helped us develop the amazing medical advancements that we see today. It is the Atheists of this world who engineered the planes that we fly on, the computers that we use, the life support systems that we run. It is the atheists who designed the space shuttle and put man on the moon.
Theists are happy to use all of these amazing technologies, while all the time attacking and belittling Atheism.
After accepting and using all of these technologies, dogmatic believers still try to explain the world by saying ‘God did it’. Shameful.
anyway, time to relax and watch family guy
